New Delhi: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of Delhi hailed the 2024-25 Budget as comprehensive, asserting that it caters to every sector and embodies the ideals of "Ram Rajya." He emphasized the significance of the Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana, which promises ₹1,000 per month to every adult woman, labeling it as possibly the "world's biggest step towards women empowerment."

Following Finance Minister Atishi's presentation of her inaugural Budget in the Assembly, Kejriwal expressed satisfaction, deeming it a commendable effort that addresses various segments of society and sectors. Highlighting the Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana, he emphasized its potential impact, indicating plans to implement the scheme post Lok Sabha polls.

The scheme aims to provide ₹1,000 monthly to every adult woman in Delhi. Kejriwal estimated its coverage to benefit approximately 45 to 50 lakh women after excluding income tax-paying women and those already benefiting from government schemes, out of Delhi's 67 lakh women voters.

Responding to queries regarding the decreased Budget outlay compared to the previous fiscal year, Kejriwal attributed it to the lack of funding from the central pool of taxes, lamenting the discontinuation of the earlier allocation of ₹325 crore. He likened it to "strangulating the hen that lays golden eggs." The Budget for 2024-25 stands at ₹76,000 crore, down from ₹78,800 crore in the previous year.

Atishi highlighted that the Delhi government has refrained from taking any loans except during the COVID-19 crisis, underscoring their prudent fiscal management. The commitment to financial prudence amidst challenging circumstances further underscores the government's dedication to effective governance and welfare initiatives for the residents of Delhi.
