New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday directed the central government and police to take action as per the law in the FIR registered in connection with the violence in the country's capital on Republic Day. A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking immediate release of those allegedly taken into illegal custody by the police since January 26 in connection with the demonstrations on Republic Day by a bench of High Court Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh issued this instruction while dismissing.

The court while dismissing the petition also said that it appears to be a petition filed for the purpose of getting publicity. The law graduate petitioner claimed that he had come to know through news and social workers that people had been detained from Singhu, Ghazipur and Tikri borders.

Harman Preet Singh claimed in his petition that the Delhi Police had said on 27 January that it had detained more than 200 people in connection with the violence on Republic Day in the country's capital and so far filed 22 FIRs. The petition was filed through lawyers Ashima Mandla and Mandakini Singh.
