Lucknow: The demand for postponement of assembly elections of 5 states including Uttar Pradesh and Punjab was once again made. This time Congress leader Jagdish Sharma filed a petition in the Delhi High Court demanding postponement of elections due to Corona. However, the court refused to hear his plea. The High Court, while refusing to hear the petition of Congress leader Jagdish Sharma, asked whether you live on Mars because the cases of Corona are decreasing.
Expressing displeasure, a bench of Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Jasmeet Singh said, 'Do you live on Mars? In Delhi, now the cases of corona are decreasing. The court said that either you withdraw the petition yourself or we dismiss it. After this Jagdish Sharma withdrew his petition. Sharma had sought a direction to postpone the elections in the five electoral states for a few weeks or months due to the third wave of Corona. Along with this, he appealed to the court and said that it should direct the governments to give a plan for the availability and supply of oxygen.
The elections for Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Manipur will run from February 10 to March 7. The results will be declared on March 10. Even before this, in early January, the Election Commission held a meeting with political parties. In that meeting, the political parties had talked about holding elections on time. Neither party talked about postponing the election. However, EC had imposed some restrictions on election rallies due to Corona.
