New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Thursday decided to go for hearing today on the plea of Pawan Gupta, one of the four convicts in the Nirbhaya gang rape and murder case. Earlier, hearing the petition of Gupta, the High Court had ordered a hearing on January 24.
After the court's decision, Nirbhaya's mother requested the court not to adjourn the hearing of the case, after which the court said that the order to defer the case by January 24 was withdrawn. Let me tell you that Pawan, convicted in the Nirbhaya case, had filed an application in the Delhi High Court and said that he was a minor at the time of the incident. Pawan has already been sentenced to death by the Supreme Court.
Nirbhaya's criminal Pawan Kumar has claimed in the petition that he was a minor at the time of the incident in December 2012. Medical examination was not conducted to check the age by the investigating officer, he should be given the benefit of doubt under the Juvenile Justice Act. Let me tell you, Nirbhaya was raped on the night of December 16, 2012 by five men and a minor in a moving bus together. The victim later succumbed during treatment.
