New Delhi: The cold winds in Delhi have intensified even more due to the cold winds coming from the Himalayas from the northern direction. Thursday was the coldest day of December. The minimum temperature recorded was 8.4 degrees Celsius. IMD forecasts that by the end of the week the mercury will drop to 7 degrees Celsius.

According to IMD, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 23.5 degrees Celsius below normal and a minimum temperature of 8.4 degrees Celsius below normal. The humidity level in the air has been recorded at 46 to 97 per cent in the last 24 hours. While the day's sunshine brought relief from the cold, the cold winds increased the cold as evening fell.  The Lodi Road area remained the coldest with minimum mercury of 8.3 degrees Celsius. IMD forecast that the maximum temperature will be 23 and the minimum temperature will be up to 8 degrees Celsius in the next 24 hours.

According to IITM, the wind speed on Thursday was recorded at 4 kmph. On the other hand, mixing height has been recorded at 1100 metres and ventilation index at 2500 sq m per second. The mixing height can increase to 1200 metres and wind speed from 4 to 6 kmph in the next 24 hours. The mixing height will be recorded at 1050 metres, wind speed at 8 to 10 kmph and ventilation index at 3,000 square metres per second by Saturday.

According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi's AQI on Thursday was 289. The day before that, it was 237. While the air in Greater Noida was the cleanest recorded with 154 AQI a day ago, it deteriorated to a very poor category with a figure of 297 in the last 24 hours. In addition, Faridabad had AQI 263, Ghaziabad 303, Gurugram 257 and Noida 277 AQI.
