Delhi jails fast spreading corona, 66 prisoners and 48 employees found infected

New Delhi: Corona virus infection is once again spreading rapidly in jails in the national capital. So far, 66 prisoners and 48 employees have been found corona positive in three jails in Delhi. Officials informed in this regard on Tuesday that the jail administration has constituted four committees to look after the prisoners and staff.

Director General of Delhi Jail Sandeep Goel has said that the condition of any infected is not critical. We are taking all precautionary measures related to corona virus. According to data released by the jail authorities, out of 66 prisoners found positive till Monday, 42 have been found in Tihar and 24 from Mandoli jail. Out of 48 employees found corona positive, 34 are from Tihar, eight from Mandoli jail and six from Rohini jail.

Authorities have informed that the prison dispensary has been converted into a 'Covid Care Centre' to prevent the spread of corona in Tihar, Mandoli and Rohini jail premises. An oxygen plant set up in Tihar will also start functioning soon. Several 'medical isolation cells' have been set up for prisoners who have mild signs of infection. On the other hand, separate isolation rooms have been set up in the prison premises for patients who have no symptoms of infection.
