New Delhi: Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal wrote a letter to CM Arvind Kejriwal on the department's proposal to appoint six senior lawyers to advocate on behalf of Delhi Police in cases related to riots and anti-citizenship amendment law (CAA) demonstrations. You are asked to take a decision within a week.
The Lt. Governor said in his letter that Deputy CM Manish Sisodia did not agree to the Delhi Police's proposal, while the police has given a detailed explanation in this regard. Sources have said that the Delhi Police has proposed to appoint six senior lawyers and hand over 24 cases of anti-CAA demonstrations to the Special Public Prosecutor in favor of him in 85 cases of rioting in North East Delhi.
Anil Baijal said that he had requested Manish Sisodia to reconsider his decision and agree to the Delhi Police's proposal. Sources said that Baijal and Sisodia held talks through video conference on Friday to resolve the differences, but the resolution of the matter could not be found. The source said, "In view of the sensitivity of the matter, it is requested that the decision of the cabinet be communicated as soon as possible, possibly within a week."
