New Delhi: A Delhi court on Monday sentenced a man and his son to life imprisonment in a case related to the february 2020 riots and violence in northeast Delhi. The court has sentenced father Mithan Singh to 3 years and son Johnny Kumar to 7 years rigorous imprisonment under Section 436 of IPC. Two FIRs were registered by the Khajuri Khas police against the two accused. While pronouncing the sentence, the court made a strong observation that the job of a father is to show the right path to the son, but instead of showing the right path to the son, he himself did a terrible thing.

The court of Karkardooma Court's Additional Sessions Judge Pulastya Pramachala sentenced Mithan Singh and his son Johnny Kumar in the case on Friday. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on Jony and Rs 50,000 on Mitan Singh.

The court, while pronouncing the sentence, said that communal riots are the most violent form of public disorder, which affects the society. "Communal riots are a threat which poses a serious threat to the spirit of brotherhood among the citizens of our country.   Communal riots not only cause loss of life and property but also cause considerable damage to the social fabric."
