Kolkata: On Wednesday, the former bureaucrat took the oath of office as West Bengal Governor in Kolkata.

Bose was appointed by President Droupadi Murmu to serve as the governor of West Bengal on November 17.

According to a statement issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan last Thursday, "The President of India is pleased to appoint Dr. C V Ananda Bose as regular Governor of West Bengal."

The post of the state's constitutional head became vacant after Jagdeep Dhankhar was elected India's Vice President on August 11.

Later, the interim leadership of the Bengal under Trinamool Congress administration was given to Manipur Governor Ganesan. 

Bose, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Kerala cadre from the 1977 batch who is now retired, most recently worked as an administrator at the National Museum in Kolkata until retiring in 2011.

Besides acting as university vice-chancellor, he has also held the positions of secretary to the government of India and chief secretary to state governments.

He reached West Bengal on Tuesday, and the mayor of Kolkata, Firhad Hakim, the minister of industry, Shashi Panja, the chief secretary, HK Dwivedi, and the commissioner of the Kolkata Police, Vineet Goyal met him at the airport. At the airport, he received a guard of honour before being led to the Raj Bhavan. An official announced that the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and other dignitaries, including Assembly Speaker Biman Bandyopadhyay and Leader of the Opposition Suvendhu Adhikary, would attend his swearing-in ceremony on Wednesday at Raj Bhavan.
