BHUBANESWAR: National Democratic Alliance (NDA) presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu met with BJD and BJP MLAs and MPs on Friday to solicit their support for the July 18 election.
Murmu met with BJP and BJD MPs and MLAs personally before having lunch with the chief minister at his home, Naveen Niwas. Union Minister Gajendra Shekhawat Pinaki Misra, a BJD legislator from Puri, also attended the meal.
The BJD MLAs and MPs and Odisha native Murmu had a discussion in the conference room of the Odisha Assembly. Naveen Patnaik, the chief minister, also came to the meeting.
Arun Kumar Sahoo, a BJD legislator, said that everyone, regardless of party affiliation, should support Murmu because the chief minister has already said that she will support her in the presidential elections.
The NDA nominee then visited BJP members and MPs from Odisha at the state guest house after meeting with BJD parliamentarians.

Murmu had previously received a grant welcome at the airport in Bhubaneswar. Murmu is a tribal leader from Odisha and the first woman to be appointed governor of an Indian state. She would become the second female president in history and the first tribal leader if elected.
