NEW DELHI: Droupadi Murmu, a member of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Friday  filed her nomination for the post of the nation's 15th president. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, and other Union cabinet members and  Chief Ministers of BJP and NDA-ruled states were present as she submitted her nominations.

In the meantime, Droupadi Murmu spoke to Sonia Gandhi, the president of the Congress, Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, and Sharad Pawar, the leader of the NCP, to ask for support from them and their party for her candidacy in the upcoming presidential election, which will take place on July 18, 2022.

Droupadi Murmu of the NDA received support from the YSRCP, led by Andhra Pradesh CM Jagan Mohan Reddy, on Friday. Prior to the presidential elections, the nomination papers for the NDA candidate were signed by Lok Sabha MP Mithun Reddy and YSRCP general secretary, and leader of the Parliamentary Party Vijayasai Reddy. Notably, as per source, the YSRCP holds a 4% vote share in the polls.
