BETUL: Tunnu, 11-year-old rose-ringed parrot famous as ‘DSP ka Tota,’ in Betul finally found his owner all thanks to paanwala who not only identity the parakeet, but informed DSP about his pet. Return of Tunnu, who owned by deputy superintendent of police Madan Mohan Samar brought much relief to the Samar family as it went missing on January and it had created a lot of sensation in Betul.

Tunnu was an integral part of the Samar family as DSP brought him to home days after it was born.

“I was posted at Bordehi police station, when a home guard brought this tiny bird to the police station. After initial reluctance, I decided to raise it, though I don’t like to put birds in cage,” said Samar.

After the parakeet went missing, the police officer published an ad in local newspaper. Detailing his affection towards the parakeet, he made an appeal to public to return it to him if they find it. He also announced a cash price of ₹5,100 for the person who brings it to him.

He put the appeal on his Facebook wall too, which was shared 88 times and got response from 750 people. The message spread in the small town, and many started looking for the parakeet.

“A paanwala called me up on Friday and told me that he had seen the parrot caged in a person’s possession. I immediately went to confirm if it was Tunnu or not. It started flapping its wings as soon as it saw me. I rescued my bird and brought it back home,” said Samar.

Tunnu interacts with everyone, including police officers, and accompanies the DSP to police station sometimes. It dines with the DSP’s family.

Apart from his two children, the 53 year-old DSP has adopted five homeless children in Betul district.

The Facebook post about his parrot’s homecoming has received reactions from more than 850 people, who showered it with wishes.
