Kolkata: Former Brazilian footballer Ronaldinho Gaúcho made a high-profile visit to Kolkata, West Bengal, during the Durga Puja celebrations. Arriving in the city for a two-day visit, the 2005 Ballon d'Or winner participated in various engagements, including a visit to a Durga Puja pandal. Ronaldinho, known for his football stardom, also plans to meet Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during his visit and present her with a Brazilian jersey as a gift.

 

The football legend was greeted by enthusiastic supporters at the airport, and his visit to Kolkata brought excitement to the city, known for its deep passion for football, particularly supporting Brazil.

Kolkata's Durga Puja, one of the grandest festivals in Bengal, sees elaborately themed pandals. Clubs and organizers often choose relevant issues or social causes as their themes. This year, the Sreebhumi pandal, which had previously created a replica of the Burj Khalifa, adopted a Disneyland theme, drawing large crowds.

Ronaldinho had earlier shared his plans for his visit to India, which included participating in charitable activities, visiting his R10 Football Academy, and interacting with children. He also expressed his excitement about the cultural aspects of the city and participation in the Durga Puja festivities by visiting various pandals.

The football legend mentioned his intention to participate in a charity football match, engage with sponsors, and attend felicitation programs while promoting the sport. He acknowledged Kolkata's passionate Brazil fans and expressed his eagerness to meet them.

Ronaldinho also expressed his desire to meet West Bengal's Honourable Chief Minister and gift her a jersey. In a light-hearted note, he mentioned his interest in learning cricket from Sourav Ganguly, fondly referred to as "Dada," highlighting the popularity of cricket in the region.

The footballer's visit added to the festive spirit of the city, with Durga Puja preparations in full swing and residents eagerly looking forward to the festivities.
