NEW DELHI: External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar on Thursday, March 2,  held bilateral discussions with visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang with a focus on the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

The bilateral talks took place on the sidelines of the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting.

On the fringes of the G20FMM this afternoon, I met Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang. Our conversations were focussed on finding solutions to the present issues in our bilateral relations, particularly the peace and tranquilly along the border," Jaishankar said.

It is the prime meeting between EAM Jaishankar and Qin after the latter became the Chinese foreign minister in December. The discussions took place close to eight months after Jaishankar met Wang Yi, the then-foreign minister of China, in Bali during a G20 gathering.

Jaishankar had explained to Wang the importance of swiftly resolving the outstanding issues in eastern Ladakh during their hour-long discussion on July 7.

Wang had been informed by the minister of external affairs that the two nations' relationship should be built on the "three mutuals" of mutual respect, mutual sensitivity, and mutual interests.

Wang had visited India in March 2022

India and China had face-to-face diplomatic discussions on February 22 in Beijing where they discussed "open and constructive" recommendations for disengagement in the last remaining hotspots along the LAC in eastern Ladakh.

The meeting took place under the framework of Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Affairs.
