NEW DELHI: ED questioned former Chief Minister Bhupendra Singh Hooda on Thursday in a money laundering case involving a land allotment to Associated Journals Limited (AJL) in Panchkula, Haryana. Sources had initially said that the interrogation was conducted in Manesar in Haryana for allegedly grabbing land. Officials said that Hooda was questioned for four hours in Chandigarh and his statement was recorded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). He is also expected to be questioned on Friday.

The land at Panchkula is registered at C-17 number in Sector Six. It was attached by ED last year. The AJL was allegedly run by senior Congress leaders, including members of the Nehru-Gandhi family. The group used to extract the National Herald newspaper. The ED's investigation has found that Hooda, while misusing his official position as Chief Minister of Haryana, has re-allocated the land to AJL in the guise of re-allocation in a fictitious manner with a 1982 rate (Rs 91 per square metre) and interest.

The agency had said that the re-allocation in 2005 had unfairly benefited AJL. According to ED, the market value of the plot was Rs 64.93 crore while it was allotted to Hooda for Rs 69.39 lakh. In January this year, the CBI had registered a case against former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupendra Singh Hooda, some builders and several senior bureaucrats under fraud and forgery, in Sector 58 to 63 of Gurugram and 95 per cent of the land from Sector 65 to 66 to private builders. is related to.
