Srinagar: An encounter between security forces and militants has been reported in Anantnag in southern Kashmir. According to media reports, security forces have cordoned off a house in the area. This is the second encounter in the past 24 hours.

According to information, a Pakistani terrorist was killed by security forces earlier in the encounter on Monday in Acchabal area. One Army Major was killed in the operation while three jawans including a Major were injured. Arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militant. Initially, it was reported that two terrorists had been killed, but the same was later confirmed to have been killed.

At the same time, two to three terrorists were reported to be holed up in Bidura village of Acchabal late Sunday night. Based on this information, a cordon and search operation was launched in the area by the troops of 19 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), CRPF and Special Operation Group (SOG) of the Army. The encounter broke out in the wee hours of Monday. A police official confirmed the killing of the terrorist and said that the body of one terrorist was recovered from which arms and other ammunition were recovered.
