Engineer gets suspension for trying to touch Prez Murmu's feet

RAJASTHAN: Seven days after President Droupadi Murmu's security was breached at an event in Rajasthan, the state government has suspended a junior engineer with the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) who attempted to touch her feet. 

The order from the chief engineer (administration), PHED stated: "Amba Siyol, a Junior Engineer with the PHED, had violated the protocol during the inaugural programme of the Scout Guide Jamboree in Rohet on January 4 by making an attempt to touch the feet of the president. Invoking the powers under Rajasthan Civil Service Rule, she is suspended with immediate effect."

Amba Seoul, Junior Engineer,  was at the venue to take care of the water arrangements. But breaching the security grid of the president, she managed to reach the frontline of officials who were there to welcome the president. In an abrupt move, she stepped forward and tried to touch President's feet, but was stopped by the security.

Therefore, the undersigned, in the exercise of the powers conferred under Rule 342 of Rule 958 of the Rajasthan Civil Services , we hereby order the suspension of the said Amba Seoul, junior accused with immediate effect," the suspension order reads.

The local police had let her off after a formal inquiry.

The incident was seriously noted by the Union Home Ministry, which believed there had been a severe breach in her protection, and a report from the Rajasthan Police was requested.
