The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced on Monday that the postponed county cricket season 2020 will finally begin from August 1. The county season was to begin in April but was suspended indefinitely due to the corona virus epidemic, while the ECB postponed its new tournament 'The Hundred' to 2021.

The 18 first class counties will decide on the county championship format in early July and new programs will be announced after that. The ECB said in a statement, "Commitment to play women's domestic cricket was also made in 2020, but the plan for a new elite domestic structure can be avoided." He said, "The preparation and planning of the male and female domestic sessions will depend on the advice of the government and medical professionals as the safety of players, staff and officials are the first priority." Players can resume training 'on or before 1 July' and the scheme of the session includes various red ball and white ball cricket options.

International cricket will return from July 8 with a three-Test series between England and the West Indies which will be played in a biologically safe environment. International cricket has stalled since March due to coronavirus epidemic.
