Tamil Nadu:  E.V.K.S. Elangovan of the Indian National Congress (INC) is ahead of K.S. Thennarasu of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in the by-election for the Erode East assembly seat in Tamil Nadu by a margin of 10,799 votes, as per latest trends.

Currently, Congress is in the lead with 16,286 votes, and All India Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) has 1154 votes, Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) has 220 votes, and Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) has 5487 votes.

Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge said, "Everyone anticipated this, and our party members were really optimistic about winning. That seat will be ours by a wide margin. Those in favour of the DMK-Congress coalition "Speaking about his party's victory in the Tamil Nadu by-election in Erode East.

The elections in Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Tripura would be indicative of the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, Kharge responded that they believed the Congress should step up to form the government with the coalition.

The counting of ballots for bye-elections to two assembly seats in Maharashtra and also one assembly constituency in each of Arunachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Tamil Nadu began on Thursday.

On February 27, voting took place in each of these assembly constituencies (Monday).

There are a total of 77 people running for the coveted Assembly seat in Tamil Nadu's Erode East in the by-elections.
On February 27, voting turnout in Erode, Tamil Nadu, was over 74%. (Monday).

However, the by-election is primarily between Thennarasu of the AIADMK and EVKS Elangovan of the Congress.

Elangovan ran in the by-election with the backing of the DMK, which is also Congress' more significant coalition partner.
