LONDON: Everton have joined by signing goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic on a short-term contract following recent injuries to Jordan Pickford and Andy Lonergan.

After spending five years at the Midlands club, Leicester City, Jakupovic became a free agent in the summer.

The 37-year-old, a national of Switzerland, was born in Bosnia and Herzegovina and has previously played for Hull City, Lokomotiv Moscow, and Grasshoppers Zurich in the past.

With Pickford anticipated to be sidelined until after the end of this month owing to a thigh injury sustained in the 0-0 Merseyside derby draw at Goodison Park on September 3, Jakupovic improves Everton's goalkeeping alternatives.

Meanwhile, Lonergan will miss the upcoming weeks as he finishes healing from a knee injury.

Even though Everton only has one Premier League match scheduled for the remainder of September, it has been decided to sign Jakupovic to a temporary deal.

Since being released by Leicester City at the end of his contract earlier this summer, the 37-year-old has been without a team.

The former Switzerland international played just four times during his five years in the East Midlands at the King Power Stadium. He made his final of those outings in the heartbreaking 5-4 loss to Tottenham Hotspur back in May of 2018.

Jakupovic had better times with Hull City prior to his stint at Leicester, playing in 26 of his 53 games in the Premier Leage.
