Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday announced a judicial inquiry into the Gorukhuti incident. Assam Police has launched a search operation to nab the photographer who was seen jumping on the body of a protester who was shot dead by the police.

In the video, the 'photographer', purportedly identified as Bijoy Shankar Baniya, was also seen lashing out at the protestor. Meanwhile, it was reported that two locals were killed and 12 policemen were injured in a clash between police and locals in Gorukhuti village of Sipajhar revenue circle of Darang district. . The incident happened on Thursday. According to the information, the villagers of Dholpur area number 3 protested against the police personnel who came for eviction and pelted stones at them.

The protesters attacked the police with sharp weapons, after which the police had to use tear gas and rubber bullets in retaliation to disperse the crowd. Reports said that one Saddam Hussein and Sheikh Farid were reportedly killed and several others were seriously injured during the firing incident. Sources said that 12 policemen were also injured in the clash.
