Former India opener Gautam Gambhir and Australian fast bowler Brett Lee have rejected the idea of splitting T20 matches into four innings. Recently, there was a discussion about dividing T20 matches into four innings as part of an exercise to bring newness in cricket. Gambhir said on Star Sports 'Stay Connected', "I don't believe much that T20 cricket should be divided into two innings. I think Sachin Tendulkar suggested that this can be done in 50-over cricket which seems quite sensible because you will get 25 overs (both times)."

One of the fastest bowlers in the history of cricket, Lee said that he wants some things to be traditional. He said, 'I am a supporter of T20 cricket, whether it is Indian Premier League or Big Bash, there should be something exciting to bring people to the game.' Lee said, "But when it comes to cricket, you want to keep some things traditional and I think four innings will be much more."

Regarding dividing the one-day match in four innings, Gambhir said, "This will probably reduce the importance of the toss because in some circumstances the toss plays a big role and I am in favor of it." He said, 'But not in T20, it is a very small format. By dividing it into two innings of 10 overs, it will become very small.'
