Hyderabad: In a tragic incident in Khammam district, a farmer named Bojadla Prabhakar took his own life by consuming pesticides after enduring a prolonged land dispute with local Congress leaders. Prabhakar owned 7.10 acres of agricultural land, of which 3.10 acres were allegedly occupied by Congress leaders.

Reports indicate that Prabhakar had recently invested around Rs. 8 lakhs to cultivate his land, situated next to a village pond. However, four days prior to the incident, Congress leaders used JCBs and bulldozers to remove soil from Prabhakar’s farm, claiming it had been dumped into the pond. Despite his complaints to the Tehsildar, SSI, and Irrigation Officers—who instructed the society members to halt their actions—the removal of soil continued.

Desperate and disheartened, Prabhakar, accompanied by his father, visited the Khammam Collectorate on Monday to file a complaint with the Collector and CP during a public grievances meeting. Unfortunately, he was unable to meet with the Collector, which added to his frustration. He informed his father he would return after lunch but instead went to Cherukuri Garden on the Gollagudem-Kottagudem road with a can of insecticide.

In a video, Prabhakar expressed his disappointment with Congress, stating he had voted for the party in the hope of improving farmers' lives. He criticized the Congress government for failing to support farmers and alleged that he had faced injustice under their regime. Prabhakar called on Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka to address his grievances and ensure justice for his family.

In response to the suicide, the BRS party accused Congress leaders of increasing atrocities in Telangana villages. This tragic event has underscored the severe distress faced by farmers due to land disputes and the perceived inaction of state authorities. There is an urgent call for authorities to take swift action to address such issues and prevent similar incidents in the future.
