The Indian hockey team bounced back brilliantly to beat defending champions Australia 3–1 in a shootout in the second match of the FIH Pro League here on Saturday, 22 February 2020. Both the teams were at a 2-2 draw in the match played at Kalinga Stadium, after which the decision was taken by the shootout.
According to reports, Rupinder Pal Singh (25th minute) and Harmanpreet Singh (27th minute) both scored from the penalty corner in the scheduled time of 60 minutes for India, while Australia's Trent Mitton scored the 23rd minute and captain Aaron Zalewski scored the 46th. Fired in minutes India suffered a 3-4 defeat to Australia in the opening match of the two-stage FIH match on Friday.
Let us tell that with this victory India collected three points while Australia got just one point. Both India and Australia now have 10–10 points from six matches but in the table, the Australian team is ranked one place above the Manpreet Singh-led team in terms of goal difference. In the shootout, Harmanpreet, Vivek Sagar Prasad and Lalit Upadhyay scored goals for India while only Daniel Beale was able to score for the visiting team.
