New Delhi: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman supported the removal of Article 370, saying that this clause was a gross violation of human rights. Women were being denied their right to property. But no one has spoken about it, but when this temporary constitutional provision has been lifted, human rights has become a 'popular word' globally. She said that this article had stopped giving fundamental rights to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

She was participating in the discussion held at Columbia University's 'School of International and Public Affairs'. Sitharaman was questioned about the economic loss to Jammu and Kashmir due to the bandh in the state after the abolition of Article 370. The Finance Minister said that women were still deprived of their property rights due to temporary Section 370. Due to this, the Scheduled Castes of the state were deprived of the constitutional right created for their welfare.

They will get all these rights after the removal of this temporary section 370. Sitharaman said that depriving a woman of her father's property, simply because she is married to someone from outside the state. This is a serious violation of human rights, to which no one has spoken to date. Where were we when these women were denied property rights for so many years where were we when the Scheduled Castes were prevented from taking positive steps. On August 5, the Central Government had announced the abolition of Section 370 from Jammu and Kashmir.
