New Delhi: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has said that if there is an import from any other country for the country's progress, then there is nothing inappropriate in this. This statement of Nirmala Sitharaman is very important amidst the growing demand to curb imports from China in the country.

In the recent violent conflict on the India-China border, 20 soldiers of our country were martyred, after which the resentment about China in the country is at its peak. Many organizations have urged boycott of Chinese goods. The trade between India and China seems to be tilted in favour of China. In the year 2018-19, $70 billion was imported from China in India. Addressing the workers of the Tamil Nadu unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Nirmala Sitharaman said on Thursday that there is nothing wrong in importing raw material which are not available in the country and is needed by any of our industries.

According to the news agency PTI, giving information about the self-reliance campaign of the central government, the Union Finance Minister has said that, "There is nothing wrong in importing to increase your production and create employment opportunities. But import should only happen when it creates employment opportunities, promotes growth and self-sufficiency in the economy of the country."
