Mumbai: An FIR has been registered against three persons, including the former Mayor of Mumbai and Shiv Sena (Uddhav faction) leader Kishori Pednekar, in connection with a cheating case, police said on Sunday. The case pertains to acquiring flats built under the Maharashtra government's Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) in suburban Worli.

A case has been registered against Pednekar and three officials of a private firm on charges of cheating and forgery in connection with the acquisition of flats in Gomata Janta SRA Society. According to the complaint filed by SRA officer Uday Pingle, former mayor Pednekar had acquired a flat in the name of Gangaram Boga in Gomata Society. The flat was allotted to Boga in 2008, but Pednekar had mentioned it as his property in the 2017 Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections.

According to the police, the FIR mentions another case, according to which a commercial unit was given to another person in 2008. But later this property was described by a private firm as its office while filing the registration documents with the Registrar of Companies (RoC). In 2017, the firm had also taken over a second property in violation of SRA rules. According to the police officer, besides Kishori Pednekar, three other persons have been booked under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code for cheating and other offenses. However, no arrest has been made in the case so far. An investigation is underway. The girl had earlier come into the limelight in January 2021 after she was threatened by a man. The 20-year-old man who threatened was nabbed from Jamnagar, Gujarat. The culprit had called on mayor Kishori Pednekar's mobile. The culprit spoke in Hindi and abused the mayor. The mayor had later filed a complaint at the Azad Maidan police station in south Mumbai, where the BMC headquarters is located. The police had only the mobile number and through technology, the police managed to reach Manoj.
