Lucknow: A video of Maulana Abdul Latif Qasmi of Darul Uloom Deoband in the Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh has gone viral on social media following an FIR against him in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. Maulana has been booked under sections 153A, 505 of the IPC, and section 66F of the IT Act. Maulana is not named in the FIR. It says only 'Maulana.'

In an FIR filed on Wednesday (July 27, 2021), complainant Acharya Jagdamba Prasad Pant has accused the maulvi of hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus. He accused Qasmi of making baseless and controversial claims against the Hindu temple. He has said that the maulvi has tried to incite communal tension by claiming the temple, which is very sacred to many Hindus including him and his family. Maulana Abdul Latif said in his video, 'The real thing is that he is Badruddin Shah and not Badrinath. It is a Muslim shrine, so it should be handed over to Muslims. These are not Badrinath. Did putting Nath become a Hindu? It is Badruddin Shah. Take the date and see. Study history, then. Muslims want their religious place.'

Acharya Jagdamba rejected maulana's claim by attaching a video of him with his Tahrir. He said the language used in the video has hurt him and his family members and hurt their faith. The complainant says the maulvi's claims could provoke communal riots in and outside Uttarakhand. The complainant has asked Dehradun police to take cognizance of the matter. They demand that videos should be removed from all digital platforms and action should be taken against Maulana.
