3 newborns burn, seven infants died of suffocation: Rajesh Tope

Mumbai: Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope recently said that, "Three newborns died due to burns in the fire in Bhandara district hospital, while seven babies died of suffocation." Apart from this, he also said that "orders have been given to investigate the incident and the culprits will not be spared". Indeed, the Health Minister says that, 'An amount of five lakh rupees will be given to the next of kin of infants who lost their lives in the incident.' Regarding this matter, doctors say, '10 newborns died due to fire in the special neonatal intensive care unit of the hospital late on Friday night. There were a total of 17 newborns in this unit, out of which seven have been rescued.'

Currently Rajesh Tope has given a video message. In this video message, he said, "Initial information has revealed that three newborns were burnt to death in Bhandara district hospital while seven infants died of suffocation in smoke." Apart from this, in the video message, he also said, 'The hospital staff has rescued seven other newborns admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit. Medical personnel on duty opened the windows and doors of the neonatal intensive care unit and transferred the infants to the adjacent wards. But they could not save the lives of 10 infants.'

At the same time, he has also told that, "Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has informed me to allot five lakh rupees to the families of dead babies. The bodies of the children have been sent to their homes for the last rites. Those responsible for the incident will not be spared."
