Five convicted of sexual assault on minor girls in Assam's Golaghat

A court in Golaghat sentenced five people to prison for four distinct counts of sexual assault on minor girls under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).

In the year 2019, Lakhindra Sareng and Sukram Majhi were convicted of sexually assaulting a minor girl and were sentenced to 20 years in jail and a fine. Sukura Karmakar was sentenced to seven years in prison together with them for sexually abusing a four-year-old girl.

Apart from this, Aminul Sikdar and Anil Bora, two other offenders, were sentenced to prison for two separate incidents. Aminul was found guilty of sexual assaulting a 13-year-old child, while Anil was found guilty of assaulting a five-year-old child.
