Medak: Five Peacocks were found dead in Medak district of Telangana on Friday, causing panic among villagers. Forest officials were also informed and samples were sent for testing.

In the wake of the bird flu outbreak, fears of bird deaths have risen among nearby villagers. Bird samples were sent to Hyderabad for testing. Authorities suspect that all the peacocks may have died due to infestation. However, no cases of infection have been reported in Telangana so far.

The central government has so far confirmed bird flu in Kerala, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Gujarat. The Haryana government plans to kill more than 1.60 lakh birds after some poultry specimens in Panchkula were found to be infected with the avian flu.

In the DDA Park Hastasal village in Delhi, 16 birds were reported to have died abnormally and their samples were sent to a research laboratory. According to an official statement, "the process of killing birds has been completed in two districts of Kerala."
