FM Sitharaman meets IMF MD on sidelines of G7 meeting

NEW DELHI: Nirmala Sitharaman, the finance minister, is in Japan for the G7 summit for two days. She met with her Brazilian counterpart Haddad Fernando and IMF managing director K Georgieva to talk about pressing matters. 

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday, May 12 met International Monetary Fund Managing Director  Ms K Georgieva on the sidelines of G7 Finance Minister Central Bank Governors meet. 

She is in Japan for two days. In Niigata, the G7 summit is taking place. On the sidelines of the G7FMCBG meeting, Nirmala Sitharaman also met with her counterpart Haddad Fernando from Brazil. According to a tweet from the Finance Ministry,  Fernando praised India for organising the G20 presidency and for taking the lead on important global economic concerns.

On the sidelines of the G7FMCBG meeting, She also met her counterpart Haddad Fernando from Brazil. According to a tweet from the Finance Ministry, Mr. Fernando praised India for organising the G20 presidency and for taking the lead on important global economic concerns.

The two ministers talked about concerns like debt vulnerabilities, bolstering multilateral development banks (MDBs), and digital public infrastructure (DPI).

She reiterated her support for Brazil's planned 2024 G20 leadership. The country of South America will preside over the G20 from December 1, 2023, until November 30, 2024.
