New Delhi: The Congress-Trinamool Congress are set to come together again to form a front against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the upcoming elections. Congress leaders have praised TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee's efforts to unite opposition parties against the BJP. Congress leaders say that the country's oldest party, the Congress, will have to play an important role in the opposition camp.

Anand Sharma, leader of the dissident faction of the Congress, the G-23, has said that this (opposition unity) is the declared position of the Congress. The Congress President and the Executive Committee have stressed on this. Congress leaders also say that minor differences between other opposition parties and the 137-year-old party should be forgotten as non-BJP leaders are trying to unite to defeat a BJP-like force. On March 27, Mamata had written to all non-BJP chief ministers and senior leaders of opposition parties, including the Congress, calling for coming together with progressive forces and fighting against the BJP rule.

On opposition unity, veteran Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi said, Mamata Banerjee is a strong pillar of the opposition. The opposition should be united to prevent the division of votes in each state for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. On the question of Mamata Banerjee criticising the Congress in the past, senior Congress leader Manish Tewari said that when there is a challenge to save the country, such minor differences should be forgotten.
