Students' Right activist and Former DUSU president Shakti Singh has a penchant for public life but he isn’t in it for his own benefit. The former President of the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) is actively involved in propagating the vaccination drive going on among the rural folk in the Awadh and Kashi regions of Uttar Pradesh. Countering the propaganda to hurt India’s fight against the Coronavirus, Shakti Singh is making use of his NGO, Young Hind Society, to reach out to the villagers, especially those with no access to technology. The NGO volunteers are helping villagers to reach out to the vaccination centers in the absence of access to Aarogya Setu app or CoWIN.

However, the mainstay of Shakti Singh’s public campaign remains promoting vaccination among villagers. Regarding this, he said, “We need to make special efforts in rural areas to convince people to get vaccinated. There are a lot of misconceptions and fears related to vaccination. My team is working hard to address all queries of villagers and dispel misconceptions related with vaccination.” In this regard he has appealed to the Indian youth to come forward and contribute to their country’s fight against Covid. He has been addressing students in different parts of the country for the same.

One such event was held online recently by Apna Nawada news portal, in which Shakti Singh connected with thousands of students from Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh, to inspire them to join the fight against Covid. Addressing the students during the 5-day virtual seminar on ‘Role of the Students During COVID Period’, Shakti Singh said, “It is the foremost duty of students across India to join the country, especially the frontline workers, in their fight against this virus and motivate more and more Indians to give their hesitation and go for the vaccination at an earliest.” Recalling several student activities and programmes that he organized as the DUSU president, he mentioned, “Students have the potential to build a better society than the one into which they are born. As a student leader, I have myself organized several such campaigns to promote awareness regarding issues of national importance.”

The young leader is of the opinion that “even though India has managed to come up trumps against Covid-19, despite every chance of its fight going haywire considering that our country has a very large and diverse population, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s able leadership, we crossed every obstacle and created milestones in our fight against this dreaded virus.”
