Lucknow: Protest about the Love Jihad Act is constantly intensifying in Uttar Pradesh. 104 retired IAS officers have written a letter to CM Yogi Adityanath regarding this law. These officials have opposed the Love Jihad Act in their letter. Former officials expressed concern over the use of the law and expressed their disapproval of it.

Those writing the letter include former National Security Advisor Shivshankar Menon, former Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao, former PM advisor TKA Nair, K Sujatha Rai and AS Daulat. Officials have also demanded compensation for those arrested under the law, calling this ordinance illegal. The letter said that the UP which was once known for the Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb has now become the centre of politics of hatred, division and bigotry and the institutions of governance are now steeped in communal poison. It is very painful.

Former officials have also mentioned the Moradabad case in their letter. The letter wrote, "The police remained mute spectators in this case while some people harassed the innocent couple. After this incident, the woman also got miscarried." Former bureaucrats wrote that it was one of a series of "heinous atrocities" committed against young Indians, who "want to live their lives as citizens of an independent country."
