Former RBI governor Urjit Patel appointed chairman of NIPFP

New Delhi: Former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Urjit Patel has got the new responsibility. Actually, Urjit Patel has been made the chairman of the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy (NIPFP). Vijay Kelkar held this position before Urjit Patel. Kelkar took this position in 2014. However, Urjit Patel will take over as the chairman of NIPFP from 22 June.

Giving this information, NIPFP said in a statement, "We are happy that Urjit Patel, former Governor of Reserve Bank of India, is joining us as the Chairman of the Institute for four years from 22 June 2020." Explain that the main objective of NIPFP is to contribute to policy making in the areas related to public economics. This institution receives annual grant assistance from the Ministry of Finance, Government of India and various state governments.

Let us tell you that in the month of December 2018, Urjit Patel resigned even before the completion of the term of RBI Governor. He tendered his resignation before the crucial meeting of the central bank board. In this meeting, there was to be a discussion on resolving differences with the government. Patel's three-year term was being completed in September 2019. He was also eligible for a second term. However, Urjit Patel had given a personal reason behind his resignation. After the resignation of Urjit Patel, Shaktikanta Das has been appointed as the Governor of the Reserve Bank.
