In a moment of relief, four Indian nationals evacuated from Syria arrived safely at Delhi airport, expressing gratitude to the Indian Embassy for their efforts in facilitating their return. The evacuees described their ordeal in the conflict-stricken region and praised the embassy’s swift actions as part of India’s mission to safeguard its citizens abroad.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has confirmed that, so far, 77 Indian nationals have been evacuated from Syria under the government’s initiative to ensure their safety. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasized that Indian embassies in the Middle East remain vigilant and ready to assist nationals in need.

Syria’s newly appointed Prime Minister, Mohammed al-Bashir, has outlined repatriating refugees as a key goal to restore stability in the country. However, challenges persist, including ongoing unrest and incidents such as the recent arson at the tomb of Hafez al-Assad.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has reaffirmed its commitment to the safety of Indian citizens living abroad, urging those still in Syria to stay alert and maintain contact with the nearest Indian embassy for updates on available assistance. The MEA's message comes as many Indians, like Bhushan, share harrowing accounts of their evacuation experiences, revealing chaotic scenes during the process.

Among those evacuated were several individuals from Jammu and Kashmir, many of whom were pilgrims, also known as 'Zaireen,' traveling to religious sites in Syria. The government's prompt and proactive approach has been widely appreciated by the families of the rescued individuals. Ghulam Mohammad, whose relatives were among those stranded, expressed his relief, saying, "They were stuck for days initially due to the collapse of the government there. It was only after the embassy intervened with rescue operations that they could finally return home safely."

The successful evacuation operation not only underscores the urgent need for swift action by governments when citizens' lives are at risk but also highlights the personal stories that emerge from such crises. For people like Bhushan, their return symbolizes both relief and the harsh reality of being caught in the midst of conflict.

As the situation continues to evolve, the Indian government is closely monitoring the circumstances to ensure those still unaccounted for receive the necessary support. The evacuation stories also reflect the widespread fear and uncertainty felt not just by Indians, but by expatriates and locals alike, caught in the turmoil of the Syrian conflict.
