Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Friday released four former MLAs, including a former minister, as part of the ongoing process to release the leaders kept in custody. All these leaders were under house arrest since August 5, when the Central Government repealed Section 370 and divided the state into two union territories.
The names of the four released leaders are Haji Abdul Rashid, Nazir Ahmed Gureji, Mohammad Abbas Wani and former minister Abdul Haq Khan. Earlier on Thursday, five politicians were released, including National Conference leaders Altaf Kalu, Shaukat Ganai and Salman Sagar, and People's Democratic Party (PDP) leaders Nizamuddin Bhat and Mukhtar Bandh. Salman Sagar is the former Mayor of Srinagar Municipal Corporation.
With the release of four leaders, 21 leaders are now in custody in the Valley. These include three former CMs - Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti. Farooq Abdullah is placed under house arrest at Gupkar Road in Srinagar, which has been converted into a sub-jail. Omar Abdullah has been placed under house arrest at Hari Niwas and Mehbooba Mufti in a government bungalow on Maulana Residency Road, Srinagar.
