Bali: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, US President Joe Biden, Chinese President Xi Jinping and heads of state of all countries attended the G-20 Summit being held in Bali, Indonesia, but Russian President Vladimir Putin did not attend it. Putin last appeared at the G-20 Summit in 2014.
At that time, most world leaders had distanced themselves from Putin, because shortly before the summit, he had merged Crimea, part of Ukraine, with Russia. Many countries had expressed displeasure over Putin's move. In such a situation, when Putin came to attend the G20 meeting, he was isolated there. After this, Putin did not stay at the conference for long and soon returned to Russia. Now 8 years later, when Putin is at war with Ukraine and is facing sanctions from many countries, he has distanced himself from the G20 summit held in Bali.
Experts believe that the Russian government does not want Putin to face criticism from everyone. For this reason, President Putin is not attending the G20 Summit in Indonesia. However, Putin does not mind much, because Russia is already facing a lot of western sanctions.
