NEW DELHI:  Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, dedicated and laid the foundation stone for three national highway (NH) projects totaling Rs. 1,206 Crore on Thursday in Siliguri.

Speaking to the gathering, Gadkari noted that the newly inaugurated projects include a (ROB) that would replace the level crossing at km 615.5 of NH-31 (Oodlabari) and greatly improve international connectivity, as well as a ROB that will take the place of the level crossing at kilometre 661.100 of NH-31 (Maynaguri). He said that shorter travel distances and other safety features will help prevent accidents.

Gadkari said, the growth of these projects will spur industrial and economic development in West Bengal as well as in eastern India, with major gains made in the agricultural sector.

The upgrade to 4/6-laning of NH-31 (New NH-10) with both side service roads from kilometre 569.258 to km 581.030 was officially launched on Thursday, giving Siliguri's traffic a significant boost (end of AH-02 project on NH- 31 near Shivmandir to Sevoke Army Cantonment). It would improve connectivity with neighbouring nations including Bangladesh, Nepal, and North Eastern India.
