Gautam Gambhir lashed out on AAP leader Atishi for allegations against his candidatures

New Delhi: Rejecting Aam Aadmi Party leader Atishi Marlena’s allegation that he has two voting cards BJP’s East Delhi candidate Gautam Gambhir said he always voted from Rajendranagar. To be noted that Atishi who is Gambhir’s opponent from East Delhi had filed a criminal complaint against him as his name figures twice in the electoral rolls. The cricketer-turned-politician further said that if elected his priority will be to work for the betterment of the people of Delhi.

Gambhir said “I won’t promise to make Delhi beautiful as Paris, London, Washington or Tokyo as I don’t want to change its identity,”. Reiterating his statement on the ‘tukde-tukde gang’ the retired cricketer said that there is no place for anti-nationals in this country and added that for him India will always come first. To be noted that Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal had said he would “transform” unauthorised colonies in Delhi after which the national capital would resemble neighbourhoods in London and Paris.

After filing the complaint Atishi took to Twitter and urged the voters of East Delhi to not cast their ballot in favour of Gambhir saying he will be disqualified. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal also urged people not to waste their vote and tweeted: "Voters shud not waste their vote on someone who will get disqualified soon.” Delhi will vote for the seven Lok Sabha seats on May 12 and the counting of votes will take place on May 23.

Meanwhile, a Delhi court said that it will hear the matter on May 1. The complaint has been filed under Section 155(2) of the Representation of the People Act at Tis Hazari Court, seeking direction for the police to investigate Gambhir's offence, which is punishable under Sections 17, 31, 125A of the Representation of the People Act, said a press statement issued by Atishi's office. According to Section 17, no person is supposed to be enrolled as a voter in more than one constituency while Section 31 makes a false declaration in the matter of inclusion or exclusion of voter rolls punishable with up to one year in prison.
