Glitch in app, want of cadre strength delay Tamil Nadu Cong e-membership drive

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Congress' e-membership campaign has been postponed due to a malfunction in the software used to enrol members, as well as a shortage of cadre strength to check the recruited members.

The Congress high command had asked the Tamil Nadu unit to complete the digital membership campaign by March 31, but the party leadership had extended the deadline by fifteen days because only a few lakh members had been enrolled by the cut-off date.

Sharing details before media, a senior party official who did not want to be identified said, "The mobile app used for the e-membership campaign had faults, and there was a shortage of cadre strength to verify the legitimacy of these members. Almost all states are experiencing this issue, and we complained to the party's top command, who granted us a 15-day extension." It should be mentioned that the Congress in Tamil Nadu has been suffering from a huge cadre erosion since a big group of politicians led by influential leader G.K. Moopanar formed the Tamil Manila Congress (TMC). While the party claimed to have done very well in the 2021 Assembly election, it actually won by riding on the DMK's coattails.
