The corona epidemic has created panic all over the country, with many states imposing lockdown and curfew in view of the increasing corona cases. Goa too could not escape it anymore. Goa CM Pramod Sawant has announced that a full lockdown will be imposed from Thursday evening till the morning of May 3, only for necessary services. Goa reported 2,321 new corona cases on Monday, while 38 patients died. At present, there are 15,260 active cases in Goa.

Expressing concern over the figures, Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said lockdown is necessary to save lives of people in the state. Minister Vishwajit Rane tweeted that "Discussions with experts have revealed that 200 to 300 people are likely to die daily in the next 10 days, the situation is really serious. He also said he was sure the CM would consider his request. Though CM Pramod Sawant had then said that no decision has been taken on the lockdown yet, action will now be taken if there is a rush anywhere.

Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Monday said saving lives is more important than economic activity. He stressed the need for lockdown in view of the increasing corona cases in the state. "In addition to the measures, Goa will definitely have a lockdown on the lines of other states like Maharashtra and Karnataka for a particular period. Life matters to us more than economic activities"
