Goga Navami, also known as Guga Naumi, is a revered Hindu festival dedicated to Lord Guga, the Snake God. This festival takes place on the Krishna Paksha Navami Tithi, which is the ninth day of the Hindu lunar month of Bhadrapad. This year, Goga Navami is observed on August 27, 2024.

On this auspicious day, the sun will rise at 06:11 AM and set at 06:45 PM. The moonrise will be at 12:34 AM, and the moonset will occur at 01:53 PM. The Navami Tithi will begin at 02:20 AM on August 27 and conclude at 01:33 AM the next day.

Gogaji, also known as Jahar Veer Gogga, is a prominent folk deity worshipped predominantly in Northern India, including Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Punjab. Legends describe Guga as a powerful Rajput prince with the ability to control venomous snakes. The festival is marked by various stories and traditions linked to his life.

Devotees believe that worshipping Gugaji on Goga Navami provides protection from snakes and other malevolent forces. It is also thought to safeguard children from harm. Married women perform special pujas for the health and safety of their children.

The observances for Goga Navami often begin from Shravan Purnima and continue until Navami, spanning nine days. The festival is celebrated with great reverence at Guga Mari temples, where devotees tie Rakhi or Raksha Stotra to Lord Guga, seeking protection from all dangers.

Fairs and celebrations are organized in various Northern and North-Western regions of India during this time. The Guga Navami Mela in Hamirpur district, Himachal Pradesh, is particularly well-known. May Lord Guga bless all his devotees with safety and prosperity.
