New Delhi: Gold and silver prices have increased in Indian markets today, as the price of precious metals in international markets has increased. Gold futures on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) gained 0.16 per cent to Rs 52,252 per 10 grams, while silver gained 0.8 per cent to Rs 65,880 per kg.

The price of gold had increased last week, it rose by about Rs 1,500 per 10 grams in five days. Gold reached a record high of Rs 56,200 per 10 grams in August. Internationally, the price of gold has increased due to the weak dollar today. Spot gold gained 0.2 per cent to $ 1,955.76 an ounce. Silver gained 0.5 percent to $ 25.72 an ounce and platinum rose 0.8 percent to $ 896.

The dollar index was at a near two-month low of around 92.177. A weaker US dollar makes gold much cheaper for holders of other currencies. Actually, gold is mostly traded in US dollars and India is a big buyer of gold. The holding of SDPR Gold Trust, the world's largest gold-backed exchange-traded fund, rose 0.63 per cent to 1,260.30 tonnes on Friday.
