Lucknow: Some controversy has come to light on the controversy of changing the name of the long-running park in Gorakhpur that the name of Gorakhpur famous Vindhyavasini Park has been changed to Hanuman Prasad Poddar National Park. However, BJP MLC Devendra Pratap Singh has started opposing the decision. Jahan Singh has written a letter to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath asking to cancel this decision. Where he said, "The park was named after a freedom fighter and changing the name is like insulting the contribution of the freedom fighter." Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also criticized the move.

In a tweet, he said, "The park was named after a freedom fighter and it is the arrogance of the BJP that is taking such decisions." Vindhyavasini Park was named after Vindhyavasini Prasad Verma, a freedom fighter who played an important role in the Champaran Satyagraha and then the 'Quit India' movement. He was an associate of Mahatma Gandhi.

Who is Hanuman Prasad Poddar: Sources say that Hanuman Prasad Poddar, after whom the park has been renamed, was an Indian freedom fighter, litterateur, editor of the magazine and a social worker. He was also one of the trustees of the famous Geeta Press. His work of increasing pride among the people about India's glorious history and philosophical tradition drew praise from Mahatma Gandhi. The Government of India issued a postage stamp in his memory in 1992. The park was built in 1952 and is spread over 35 acres of land.
