New Delhi: Central Bureau of Investigation Special Director Rakesh Asthana was moved out of the investigating agency on Thursday evening. Apart from Asthana, the tenures of the other three officers have also been curtailed.

Centre removed Asthana and  Joint Director Arun Kumar Sharma, Deputy Inspector General Manish Kumar Sinha and Superintendent of Police Jayant J Naiknavare from CBI.

Earlier, the government has sent Ashthan on forced leave. He recently moved an application in Delhi High Court seeking correction in the recent judgment which had earlier refused to quash an FIR against him.

The new decision came just days after Alok Verma was removed from his post  of CBI director and was transferred as Director General of Fire Services, Civil Defence and Home Guards. However, Verma refused to accept the new position and tendered his resignation saying he had already superannuated from the police service.

A high-powered committee chaired by PM Narendra Modi, Justice AK Sikri and Congress’ Mallikarjun Kharge  took the  decision to remove Verma as the CBI director. Congree leader Kharge voted against Verma’s removal and issued a dissent note which later was made public by the party.
