Government mulls to curb illegal activities at Sambhar Salt Lake

The state government has become rigid about the illegal activities taking place around the world-famous Sambhar Salt Lake. Chief Secretary Rajiv Swaroop has sought a report from the district administration of Nagaur and Ajmer regarding illegal activities happening around the Sambhar Salt Lake. The Chief Secretary has ordered the officers to prepare a detailed map of the lake.

On Thursday, Chief Secretary Rajiv Swaroop held a meeting of the second standing committee related to Sambhar Lake held at the Government Secretariat and reviewed the current status of the lake. Chief Secretary Rajiv Swaroop also discussed in detail the Annual Management Plan. The Chief Secretary has instructed Nagaur and Ajmer District Collector to remove illegal electrical connections from there with immediate effect. He has ordered power and police departments to coordinate and seize the pipelines and pump sets used for illegal salt mining.

The Chief Secretary told the officials that municipalities and gram panchayats will have to be prepared for the conservation of Sambhar Lake and protection of migratory birds. The Chief Secretary has also given instructions to immediately remove the encroachments and other obstacles in the path of rainwater reaching the catchment area of the lake. Chief Secretary told the District Magistrate of Ajmer and Nagaur through video conferencing that the State Government is committed to the conservation of Sambhar Salt Lake. Illegal activities happening around Sambhar Lake should be curbed immediately. Work on a strong action plan to prevent illegal activities.
