Online news portals and online content programmes running in the country will now be run by the Department of Information and Broadcasting. The notification is going to be launched today on behalf of the central government. The Central Government has issued an order on Wednesday to bring online news portals, online content providers under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Under which online films under the Department of Information and Broadcasting can be accompanied by audio-visual programmes, online news and current affairs content.

It has been revealed that the central government had earlier advocated in a case in the Supreme Court that regulation of online media is more necessary than TV. Now, the government has taken steps to bring news or content media under the departments through online media.

During the hearing of a case in the Supreme Court, the court has given more attention to the need to regulate electronic media. The Central Government had said in the court that if the Supreme Court is to set standards for electronic media, it is necessary to enact a rule law for digital media first. The government, which argued that there are already guidelines for electronic and print media, has a large reach for digital media, which is also the highest impact.

The government had earlier provided a facility for digital media journalists working in the country. The Central Government had said that it would consider giving benefits like PIB recognition to journalists, photographers and videographers of digital media bodies. Not only that, the Government had also said that it would also look into the reach of these journalists, photographers, videographers in the official press conference. It has been revealed that the government has asked the digital media bodies to pursue their interests and set up self-regulation institutions to communicate with the government.
