The Punjab government has decided to impose additional restrictions in Jalandhar, Ludhiana, and Patiala in view of Covid-19. The government has decided that during 5 am to 9 pm any movement has been imposed for non-essential work. In the information and public relations department, Punjab informed that restaurants, hotels, and other hospitality units will be open till 8.30 pm. Shops and shopping malls will be open till 8 pm. The restaurants/hotels within the shopping malls and liquor shops will be open till 8.30 pm. Along with this, the information and public relations department said that apart from the essential items and those working in shopping malls, other shops will be closed on Sunday. In 3 districts of Ludhiana, Patiala, and Jalandhar, such shops will remain closed on Saturday till further instructions.

The cases of Covid-19 infection in Punjab and the number of deaths due to it have almost doubled in the last 16 days. Out of the total cases in the state, about 55% of the cases have been reported in four districts of Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar, and Patiala and 65% of the total deaths due to infection in the state have occurred in these four cities. Apart from this, the figures of infection cases and deaths in Punjab have almost doubled in 16 days. After which the state health officers attributed the increase in deaths due to Covid-19 and delay in reaching the hospital by people with infection symptoms to spread the disease. According to the official medical bulletin, the number of corona cases in the state reached around 31,206 on Sunday evening, while on July 31 this number was 16,119.
